Clean Artificial Eye

clean artificial eye For a clean artificial eye, the SonicBrite professional cleaning system is so powerful, your plastic artificial eye or scleral shell is clean, fresh, bacteria-free, and ready to wear in just 15 minutes! Created to remove calcium deposits, protein deposits, and bacteria from plastic artificial eyes and scleral shells, this battery-powered sonic bath cleans at the touch of a button.
It is normal to have a certain amount of natural discharge as well as a buildup of dirt or dust in your socket. To clean your artificial eye buildup, you may need to clean your prosthesis several times a day however, in most cases once a day is efficient. It’s important to remove the ocular prosthesis only as necessary. Too much handling can cause socket irritation and result in excessive secretions and bacteria, calcium or protein buildup.

You may feel apprehensive the first time you remove your ocular prosthesis, while this is a natural and common feeling, remember that it is a very simple and easy process and an essential step in maintaining a clean artificial eye.

Follow these simple steps:
• Wash and dry your hands
• Look into a mirror
• Put something soft like a towel in the sink or on the table in front of you. This way, if your artificial eye drops out it will have a soft landing. Be careful that it does not drop onto the floor or a hard surface as it may chip or scratch.
• Gently pull your lower lid down until you can see the lower edge of your artificial eye
• Put the thin end of the extractor between your lower lid and the lower edge of the eye
• Lever the eye gently forward over the lid

artificial eye cleaner Helpful hints to keep a clean artificial eye:
• Don't use alcohol or any chemical cleaner as even a small amount of residue can cause irritation and damage to the eye.
• Don't use hairspray, aftershave, perfume or peroxide near your eye, as these also cause irritation.
• There is protein in your tears. As the tears evaporate, they leave a coating of protein on the eye prosthesis. This buildup eventually causes a reaction on the underside of the lids, leading to irritation. Using the SonicBrite system can help maintain a clean artificial eye.
